The 5th Album is Finished!!!

Thank you!! Let’s celebrate!

To my supporters, friends, inspirers, collaborators and accountability partners.

On my 34th birthday, back in March, I asked you all to be collective patrons of my 5th album, Walking to the Light. You, my community of support, showed up and delivered!

I put my whole heart and soul into giving you back an album of original songs that honors the tremendous gift you have given me. I believe in the record that I’ve made along with the help of many talented people. I believe it’s an honest reflection of life, and the performances are my most real and live moments that I’ve been fortunate enough to record.

If you are able, please join me at the McConnell Arts Center in my hometown of Worthington, Ohio on January 14th and 15th.

I’ll be joined on stage by an ensemble of talented musicians to perform the songs live from Walking to the Light and many more from my previous albums.

To purchase tickets follow this link – Buy Tickets

Many of you have tickets already that you will receive as part of your Kickstarter reward package. You will be able to pick up your tickets at Will Call.

If you are someone who is receiving tickets as part of your backer reward and you can not make the show, please let me know. Also, you can have someone use your tickets in your place if you are unable to attend. If you’d like to have someone else use your tickets, just let me know the names.

Again, thank you all so much for your support, I would never have been able to complete this record without you! I look forward to celebrating with you all!

Love,
Matt

KickStarter Launch for New Album!

5fa3de46-b956-4fe0-94ff-030aa48b90af

Hello everyone!!

I’m very excited to announce the launch of a new Kickstarter for what I hope will be my 5th studio album Walking to the Light!

The campaign officially begins Friday March 4th with a special Kickstarter Kickoff Bash at Natalie’s Coal fired pizza and live music!

The full Matt Munhall Trio will be there for the night, and there will be an exclusive screening of the Walking to the Light video!

The show starts at 10pm! Tickets are $10, please call ahead, as it fills up fast!

Its my 34th birthday on 3/4, which can be spoken as March Forth!!! The new album is Walking to the Light…see all the connections!

This is the second time I’ve used Kickstarter in hopes of making a record. In 2013, with generous support of backers, I was able to make my 4th album 700 Miles  with Brad Jones, Charlie Sexton and many other talented musicians in Nashville.

None of this would have been possible without all of you…

Over the last couple years I’ve continued writing new songs, and I finally think I’ve got the songs I believe in to make a new record.

You’ll hear one song about the perils of the music business, one about being blind and down in the gutter, another about true love being sacrifice. There are songs about tough decisions, burying hatchets, the first day of Kindergarten, a song about Charlie Sexton, oh and uh Walking to the Light.

So now its time to make a record!

The rewards for being a backer are even better this time. For example there’s a full length music video for the title track Walking to the Light, that will be exclusively released to all backers as they contribute…

Also we’ll be making a documentary about the process of making, Walking to the Light, start to finish. This reward is also an exclusive, available only to backers.

There will even be a collectable first time vinyl pressing available!

As always there will be a big release party and concert!!

The conservative release date is set for early 2017.

In this ever changing world, artists need community more than ever to come together and be a part of making the arts come to life. I’m very grateful for your support on this new journey, stay tuned for the official launch and find a level of support that works for you. Thank you for all of your love and support over the years….without it I wouldn’t get to do what I love, which is making music for all of you.

Upcoming Show at Notes and an Update from Matt

notes-event

Hello my friends!

It’s been a long while since I’ve written you to let you know what’s happening with my music…too long. First off, I want to invite you to a special show I’m playing at a new venue in Columbus called Notes (http://www.copiouscolumbus.com/new-index/). The show is October 24th, 8:30pm til 11:30pm. I’ll be joined by my longtime partners Jack Knuttila on drums and Roger Hines on the bass. We hope you can make it out to support us! We’d love to see you…

Now the update…. some of you will remember that I finished 700 Miles in 2013 and that I was able to do some touring of a dozen or so cities in conjunction with the cd’s release in 2014. You may not know that I hired a publicity and booking agency out of New York City to help me get my music out further than before. Truth be told that was a big bust. Lesson learned. Given how happy I was with the recording and where I was musically, the nearly complete failure of the firm to produce results for the heavy sum I paid, was devastating. After that happened I kinda crawled into a hole as far as promotion was concerned. I recommitted myself to what I’ve always done…. playing the gigs and writing new songs. At this point, I’ve got enough good ones to begin the work on a 5th album which I hope to record in 2016. The working title is Walking in the Light.

I’m playing 4 nights a week steady at my residencies in Columbus and very active in the original music scene. I’m playing nursing homes and assisted living communities again, which is where I started playing publicly as a kid. And I’ve also been playing at different churches that have invited me due to some of my newer songs being faith inspired. I’m even playing Catholic mass regularly at St. Mary’s in Delaware, OH. I’m usually there at least once a month.

Thank you to all of you for making my journey in music possible… I wish you all the very best… let me know how you are doing too!

Maybe I’ll get to see you @ Notes October 24th?!

A Christmas Letter to All

Blessings and joy be with each one of you!

Here in the last days of 2014, I wanted to reach out and share with you all an update on my life and work.

First off, I’ll tell you what I’ll be up to in the coming days. On Christmas Eve @ 7:30am, I will be on Sunny95’s Live radio show. 94.7FM in my hometown Columbus, Ohio, or live on the web here – http://sunny95.com/choose-your-stream/.

Then, I’ll be part of The Fifth Annual Beatles Marathon, on Dec 27th at The Bluestone.  Read about this uniquely amazing show and purchase tickets here – http://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-fifth-annual-beatles-marathon-tickets-13998316341  I will be playing and singing Real Love and Free As a Bird (by John Lennon posthumously released with the help of Paul, George, and Ringo) near the end of the night around 11:30pm. The show starts at noon!!! 215 songs by a group of 15 musicians – I did it last year and it was amazing. There will be over 1000 people there this year.

My next big trio show is January 23rd at Dicks Den, 9:30pm-1:30am.

I still play Wednesday’s at The Top in Bexley now for 5 ½ years

I’m playing Thursdays now at Luce Nuove in Powell…

I’m the resident pianist singer at Eddie Merlot’s in Polaris on Fridays and Saturdays…

ALWAYS reach out to me via matt@mattmunhall.com to make sure I’ll be at those places on particular nights youre planning to come….

Gratefully, this has been my busiest private party count for the holidays so far in my career, and as always let me know if I can be of help in that department (including weddings).

I’m still playing with my Trio both publicly and privately.

I’m still writing and recording and growing.

My son is now a bright, loving, and funny 5 year old, who I adore, and continue to be able to spend much of my days with.

Let me know, how have you’ve been?

And…Merry Christmas and a Happy 2014!!!

Matt Munhall
